Event Purpose
Inspired by HelloFresh and Home Chef, the Viking Basket project aims to harness the Caribbean’s rich marine resources and Cuban farms’ competitive advantages to explore ideal solutions for delivering healthy meals to households worldwide.
Cuba has been chosen as the starting point for this initiative due to its current food shortages and the potential of semi-prepared vegetable delivery to greatly reduce the loss and waste of fresh produce in production and transport. By providing pre-portioned meal kits, customers can enjoy a simpler, healthier cooking experience while minimizing food waste from unused ingredients and reducing overall food costs.
Cuba’s tropical location enables year-round access to fresh vegetables and seafood, a natural advantage over countries like Canada. Our goal is to establish an innovative, international agricultural community that spans tropical, temperate, and polar regions. Through collaborative agricultural projects in Cuba during winter and Canada during summer, we aim to develop sustainable food solutions, address the challenges of climate change and extreme weather, and promote international cooperation and knowledge exchange across regions.
The food you consume every day doesn’t magically appear on your table. Instead, it follows a process where food is produced, processed, and transported. Along the way, tons of food are wasted. Fortunately, we are striving to reduce food waste as much as possible through the Viking Basket project.
Competition Rewards:
A: Bonuses: The first prize is $300, The second prize is $100, and The third prize is $50.

Finca Vista Hermosa is a shining example of sustainable farming, committed to benefiting both consumers and the environment while ensuring the health and well-being of its animals. Here, nature is nurtured at every step—no chemicals or artificial fertilizers are used, whether on the crops or in the care of the animals raised for meat and dairy. Everything at Finca Vista Hermosa is as organic as it gets.
The animals here are among the happiest and best-fed in Cuba. From peacocks and chickens to pigs and cows, they roam freely, grazing on nutrient-rich soil. King grass and mulberry bushes flourish across the farm, and the pigs especially love to snack on "palmiche." Each day, you can witness their feeding routines as they hunt for their favorite fruits under the towering palm trees. With plenty of space to explore, the animals live a peaceful, natural life. As the largest producer of goat’s milk in the province, Finca Vista Hermosa is also home to an abundance of goats.
When it comes to dining, Finca Vista Hermosa offers a true farm-to-table experience. You’ll be treated to a showcase of homemade cheeses and cold meats, all produced right on the farm. Freshly baked bread accompanies these offerings, giving you a taste of the farm's dedication to quality. For the main course, enjoy roasted pork, rice, black beans, and a side of fresh vegetables grown on the farm. To top it all off, you'll savor a traditional homemade dessert, ensuring a wholesome and delicious dining experience that reflects the heart of sustainable farming.
At Finca Vista Hermosa, every meal tells the story of the land, the animals, and the dedication to a sustainable future.
We promote the sustainable living concept of "sea-to-table" and "farm-to-table," combining it with the simplicity of "local meal kits" to encourage the public to purchase more meal kits made from fresh, locally-sourced ingredients.
